Speech and language pathologists are ethically required to measure the progress of their students/ patients / clients, and yet data collection systems, goal writing, and the interaction between these constructs and how they are impacted by environmental variables are rarely discussed at length in graduate programs. This course provides an advanced review of data collection methodologies and goal writing strategies as they apply to working with individuals with complex communication needs. This course also reviews the relationship between measurement, data collection, and goal writing and how effective measurement integrates information from different sources, including environmental variables, communication variables, and overarching functional needs. This course will provide you with the information and resources to apply various data collection systems, consider external variables that impact data collection and goal writing, and write goals that target functional skill for individuals with complex communication needs.
This course offering is a pilot cohort. Participating in this pilot cohort will provide additional ASHA CEUs based on the pilot’s results.
